Letters to Alonzo Lewis, 1830-1832.

Letters written by Joshua Coffin and William Lloyd Garrison to Alonzo Lewis. Coffin letter dated May 1831 includes the text of a 1645 petition against taking slaves, written by Sir Richard Saltonstall, who served as Assistant to the Governor of Massachussets Bay Colony John Winthrop.

Alonzo Lewis, Joshua Coffin, and William Lloyd Garrison were all involved in the New-England Anti-Slavery Society in various capacities. Coffin and Garrison were two of its founders.
